Music City Minute: Dierks Bentley, American Idol, & Cam

Dierks Bentley shared some big news yesterday announcing the release of his ninth studio album, The Mountain, out in early 2018. Dierks revealed that the album was set in motion this past summer while surrounded by some of his musical heroes at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Telluride, Colorado. Dierks soon returned to the small mountain town for a retreat with his songwriter friends, where he said the writing process for the album came together quickly. The bulk of the album's songs, including the title track were written during the week of that retreat, which Dierks described as the most inspiring creative experience he's ever had.

Dierks said, "Telluride just makes you want to reach for your guitar. We all went out there and got completely off the grid...out of our normal element and the grind that happens on Music Row and it was, from the very get-go, magic. We'd wake up every morning, grab a coffee, take the gondola up, watch the sun come up over the mountains, and by 8:30 we were writing. We just wrote non-stop."

Yesterday we also told you the new version of "American Idol" is abandoning the bad auditions, and we know a lot of people will be sad, that's their favorite part! Well William Hung thinks that's a BIG MISTAKE.

Of course, William became the bad audition by which ALL bad auditions were judged when he butchered Ricky Martin's "She Bangs" on Season Three.

William Hung did make a great point, he said that without those auditions, the show might not have anything to separate it from "The Voice"…which doesn't do bad auditions.

Our Y100 Bud Light 8 Man Jam alumni Cam is coming to the rodeo February 18th and we can’t wait! Well, yesterday she posted a selfie on Instagram, but it wasn't some fun "Hey, look at me" pic. She wrote some serious stuff in the caption about how the photo was taken last year before a show when she was feeling anxious and inadequate.

She sent it to a friend hoping for feedback because she thought she looked, quote, "ugly-ridiculous-stupid." It's a feeling that she experiences before EVERY show during what she calls her "one hour of anxiety" of trying to look perfect. Now I’m not saying I’m glad this happens to her, but I am glad that she’s showing the world that she’s just a regular girl like all of us.

It goes on to say that she's DONE letting the "beauty ideal" suck up her time, confidence, and ability to control her own self-worth. She pledges to focus on the positive in the New Year.

She included this in the caption, "I'm gonna leave these insecure moments in 2017. I'm gonna save my [concerns] for magical stuff this year. Just like that. So here I go, looking however I look, without the worry, to more present and powerful experiences in 2018."

Check out that look of concern! This was 2017, sending a pic to one of my besties- asking if I looked ugly/ridiculous/stupid. Before every show or public appearance I put myself through about one hour of anxiety, trying to fix myself up to match some idea of what I’m “supposed” to look like. Doesn’t matter if I have a stylist or make up artist helping me either btw, I still get anxious. Once I’m onstage it disappears, but it’s frustrating that I let this insecurity become a routine that eats at my time, money, confidence and ultimately reinforces the idea that I am not in control of my own worth. But I am. How I make people feel is how they REALLY see me. How ”beautiful” I am only really matters to shallow people (and industry losers), but usually they are so concerned with their own appearance they don’t really see me. Beauty is a made up set of rules to follow - an ever changing game we unconsciously agree to play everyday (esp on social media). But it doesn’t make my music any better, it doesn’t make me happier, and it’s actually a massive waste of my potential to put someone else’s ideas ahead of my own. So I’ve decided I’m gonna leave these insecure moments in 2017. I’m gonna save my give-a-fuck’s for magical stuff this year. Just like that. So here I go, looking however I look, without the worry, to more present and powerful experiences in 2018 💪🏻💃🏼💛 #2018goals
